Distribution and Warehousing

Our distribution and warehousing mobile applications provide an alternative to expensive Warehouse Management Systems designed for large warehouses.

Industry Overview

When most people think about distribution and warehousing, they immediately think of massive warehouses with a million square feet of space and a fleet of forklifts tirelessly moving merchandise throughout the warehouse.

What people tend not to think of are the myriad of smaller warehouses that are scattered throughout the industrial parks of America, distributing pharmaceuticals, electrical supplies, plumbing supplies, and the multitude of merchandise ordered on the Internet. These are the very heart of our country's distribution system.

While there are good Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) for the massive warehouses such as Red Prairie or Manhattan Associates, there is a lack of quality systems for the small guys, which StepOne aims to solve. Take a look at StepOne's snapDC products that provides a complete basic warehouse system.

Retail Distribution Centers (DCs)

In addition to the traditional warehouses, retailers also typically have distribution centers that are optimized for transfering and receiving merchandise from retail stores. While these DCs are typically integrated into a high-end WMS or ERP system, there are often gaps between the information in the store and the information in the warehouse.

These gaps in the infrastructure are another opportunity to improve the efficiencies of the overall enterprise by tying the store data more tightly to the Distribution Centers. One common example is tracking the specific items in a carton during the return process. By providing more detailed information on the cartons, the DC staff can minimize the re-opening and re-sorting of cartons.
